Born and raised in a quintessential New England farm town, Lori Martínez Rukakoski’s avidity for art and culture were sparked at a very young teen-age, drawing inspiration from a close friend and mentor, who's professional art and design had a lingering and profound impact on Lori. Post graduate from her alma mater, University Of Connecticut, Lori moved to Oaxaca, México where she met several great and inspiring artists, including a chance encounter with the great Rodolfo Morales at his hacienda and studio in Ocotlán, Oaxaca, México. In Oaxaca, Lori also studied art at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, and Marketing and Publicity at the Universidad Mesoamericana. Lori was inspired by many great artists in Oaxaca, where her fondness of vibrant colors and the rustic elements of style originated. While walking to classes and her volunteer work assignments, Lori was profoundly inspired observing some of the greatest Pre-Hispanic and Mexican Baroque styles of architecture in the Americas. In these antique city streets of Oaxaca, a foundation was laid that fuels her interests and work of today. Upon returning to the states, Lori explained that her brain felt like it was lit up with a creativity and a vibrance she had never quite felt before. It was then that she began collecting antiques and colonial artifacts and exploring their placement in home interiors. This new fervor naturally progressed as the mid-century modern cultural boom took a stronghold in the world of interior design and in the markets for home decor. At that point, Martínez-Rukakoski set on a course of procuring unique and distinctive products for her customers which wax and wane decades of stylish home decor. Some of her favorite designs come from the Bauhaus movement, and she holds great fondness for many designers - which include the likes of Marcel Breuer, Tommi Parzinger, Arne Vodder and Finn Juhl, to name a few.
